Canadian Junior A Championship

After the CAHA reconfigured their Junior A classification for the 1970-71 season , creating two separate classifications, Major Junior and Junior "A." (Tier II) The Manitoba Centennial Trophy was first awarded to the Junior A Champion at the end of the 1970-71 season. During the 25 years the Manitona Centennial Trophy was awarded the playoff format changed, finally ending up with the format we have today. For the 1995-96 season, the Canadian Hockey Association introduced the newly named Royal Bank Cup for the championship.

The Royal Bank dropped its sponsorship after the 2017-18 season and the championship was simple known as the National Junior A Championship fot the 2018-19 season. When the tournament returned after the covid shutdown for the 2021-22 season it was renamed the Centennial Cup presented by Tim Hortons.

The current tournament structure is a five-team round-robin with a playdown. The participating teams are the four regional champions and the host team.
