The Wilson Cup was donated in 1909 by W. A. Wilson, the manager of the University of Toronto Varsity Blues Basketball team, to the winner of the Intercollegiate Basketball Union. The Blues were the first winner of the trophy, in the 1908-09 season. It has been continually awarded since that date with the exception of the two World Wars.
