2011 NCAA Mens D1 Championship Tournament

College Database Connected
The 2010-11 NCAA Basketball Tournament was unusual in that no top seed team made it to the final four weekend. In the championship game on April 4, 2011 the Connecticut Huskies defeated the Butler Bulldogs 53-41 to win the 73rd edition of the championship. The 2010-11 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament, was a single-elimination tournament involving for the first time 68 teams. The NCAA expanded the selection field from the previous 65 teams. The inivitations were thirty-one automatic teams for conference tournament winners and the Ivy league season winner and 37 at large teams. The last four at large teams selected and the four lowest ranked automatic qualifiers had to play in a preliminary elimination round. The matchups were the final 4 seeds of the automatic qualifiers met to determine the 16th seed for two regionals. The four at large teams played against each other to determine the other two teams to advance. The at large winners seeds were determined by their initial seeding. Locations were Newark, New Jersey for the East Regional, San Antonio, Texas for the Southwest Regional, Anaheim, California for the West Regional and New Orleans for the Southeast Regional. The Final Four round was held at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. The tournament will be remembered as a bracket buster for the "poolers". The numerous upsets made for an exiting tournament as long as you were not cheering for a 1 or 2 seed.
