The Ironman Triathlon - Hawaii

Get up in the morning, swim 2.4-miles, take a bike ride for 112 miles and since you are now warmed up why not run a marathon of 26.2 miles. Did we mention the temperature is extreme and the terrain is worse. This is the Ironman Triathlon Championship held in Kona, Hawaii each year until 2022. Since 2023 the men's and women's Ironman World Championships have been split and alternated between Nice, France, and Kona, Hawaii. In 2023, the men's event held on September 10 in Nice, France, and the women's on October 14 in Kona, Hawaii. The men's and women's Championships alternate between these venues until 2026. The 2021 World Championship was held in St. George, Utah on May 7, 2022. The delay and change from the original Kona, Hawaii venue were due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

When a group of Navy Seals started an argument about who was the fittest athlete in 1978, Commander John Collins suggested that the best way to decide would be to combine the Waikiki Rough Water Swim, the Around Oahu Bike Race and the Honolulu Marathon ... whoever finished would be a real Ironman. Although there are a number of events held each year the Ironman Championship in Hawaii is the one that recievesthe most media attention.
