All American Hockey League (AAHL) History

The All American Hockey Association was formed on September 25th 2008 when two other leagues, the Midwest Hockey League and the Mid-Atlantic Hockey League, could not field teams for the 2008-09 season. The AAHA combined the strongest teams in each league that were ready to play.

The AAHA’s charter members - the Battle Creek Revolution, Chi-Town Shooters, Detroit Dragons and the Evansville IceMen were formally approved. The Chicago Blaze became the first AAHA expansion team, and were activated early to complete the 2008-09 season after the Detroit Dragons folded in January of 2009.

On April 14, 2009, the All American Hockey League Board of Directors announced a reorganization from a Association format to a League format. This resulted in the All American Hockey Association being renamed the All American Hockey League.
