On September 20, 1971 Arlington Tecas was given approval from the AL owners to move the Washington franchise for the 1972 season. The original Washington Senators had moved to Minnesota in 1960 (renamed the Twins). Major League Baseball at their winter meetings that year, awarded new teams to Los Angeles and Washington, D.C..The new Washington team adopted the old Senators name, but was considered an expansion team. |
