Canadian University football is played under the direction of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS), formerley the Canadian Interuniversity Athletics Union (CIAU). There are four conferences (divisions) that compete for the Canadian university trophy, the Vanier Cup each fall. Each year Canadian universities compete for the Vanier Cup, representing the Canadian University championship team. Held in November it is the final award of the playdown system used to determine the champion.
